Studio refurb
We are refurbishing the studio to make it an even better place to be inspired in!
The green screen will be repainted, and a new improved lighting system will be fitted.
The acoustics in the large recording room will be improved with bass traps and curtains to deaden the echoes and external noise – making the noise you make sound even better.
There will be a chill-out area painted purple, orange and black ,with space hoppers to complete the kitsch retro feel, featuring free tea and coffee and a fridge stacked with goodies to keep you going through rehearsals and recordings.
Although the refurb is on-going, the rooms are available for booking
Rates for band rehearsals in the Viper Room are:
£15 for 2 hours
£20 for 3 hours
£25 for 4 hours
£30 for 5 hours
It’s a massive 30′ x 15′ room with PA and drum kit included, generally available between 11am and 11 pm
To book, call 07947593646, email info [at] madinswansea [dot] org [dot] uk or book online www.madinswansea.org.uk
The refurb will be finished by the end of November, when we’ll be using it to launch our GwirVol project, ‘Tawe and Country’
‘Tawe and Country’
Had enough of young people being blamed for everything, or being bad-mouthed and put down? Want to show all the positive things that you and others are doing?
You can use ‘Tawe and Country’ (Tawe for the river Tawe which runs through Swansea) to plan, write and produce short films about the work young people are doing, in the area and around the world.
The three main themes are:
Community – for example, the lives of young carers or the work done by young volunteers
Environment – concerns and activism locally, nationally and worldwide. What are your concerns for the future of the world? What different things are you or others doing to turn the tide towards a healthier, more sustainable planet?
Inspiration – music, art, dance and sport – or anything else which inspires you, or where you have a talent. What are the challenges and issues you have to deal with to be the best you can be – and what are your greatest successes?
The project starts mid-November, and is aimed at 16 to 25 year olds, although not all members of a group have to be in that age range. It lasts for up to 6 months, and you’ll be involved for up to 4 hours a week – times and commitments are flexible, and we can travel to you with our fantastic mobile equipment.
We can also pay travelling and food expenses if needed, and there is free tea, coffee and soft drinks at MAD central on High Street.
There are limited places, but we want to involve as many people as possible, so please get in touch with us if you’re interested. Everyone who participates can learn film making skills including operating cameras and sound recording, interviewing and being interviewed, as well as getting the opportunity to put forward your own ideas.
The project will be launched at the end of November in the refurbished studio, but work on ideas starts mid-November, so email us soon info [at] madinswansea [dot] org [dot] uk
More new musicians working with MAD.
We’ve been working with two emerging young Black artists, Louisa and Young Juppie, both originally from Ghana and now living in Swansea.
Louisa is a dancehall singer who used MAD to help her create the video for her latest track, Fever. Click here to check it out.
Young Juppie is a rapper – he’s written a rap about Swansea, City by the Sea, with help from MAD.
Both really talented, we’ve loved working with them and hope they’ve benefited from our facilities. Please get in touch if you want to record a track or create a video.

Hey, hope everyone is well.
Viper rooms are open!!! They have moved to Now Tawe studio run by Swansea M.A.D.
Anyone looking to jam, or needing any sort of practice space, give Stu a buzz on 07947 593646
New place is in the centre of Swansea - much bigger, fully soundproofed and has a lot going on (like music video production, recording facilities and has two dedicated rehearsal spaces etc)
Drum kit and pa provided.
We're especially looking for bands who want to block book slots – there's only so many times and rooms so get in fast as when they're gone they're gone!
Enjoy the Summer... See you soon... Viva La Viper

Business Support
Hello
Just recording our experiences of using the WAG's flexible business support Here
I booked an appoinment a couple of weeks ago about developing our augmented reality business in Swansea.
I was interviewed by one on the business advisors and seemed genuinely interested in our ideas he's promised to put us in touch with a person who deals with specilist help an support for the creative industry in Wales. I've just recieved a call this morning to say he's passed it up the chain as the development is quite specilised and its important we get it tro the correct people. There is apparently the possibility of financial assistance for tech development in Wales;help from university departments as well as shared investment in the end product. Which will be an augmented reality browser - yes very spesilist I know but apparently this is what the Welsh economy will be built on in the future. It's one of the key growth areas identified by the WAG Here
My young son is now pulling my laptop away from me so I think its time to go. More up dates soon.

Swansea art gallery to shut its doors for £6m refit
Well the improvements to the gallery So the new news is that the Glynn Vivian art gallery is going to be closing for 2 years for a £6m revamp! Now you might be thinking, like me, why? Doesn't it seem a little ridiculous to be closing one of Swansea's main art attractions, and for such a long period of time, what could they possibly be doing that would cost them £6m?will include some structural work, a 50-seat lecture and screening room, improved disabled access, a new dedicated library and research room and various other features all being funded by Assembly Government, the Arts Council of Wales and Swansea Council. Fair enough then I suppose, I do have to agree that the Glynn Vivian art gallery is in need of a little attention and I cannot wait to see how the place looks once it's all done and dusted. So prepare to say goodbye to Glynn Vivian galley towards the end of this year.
For more info head to the following article - http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/2011/02/14/swansea-art-gallery-to-shut-its-doors-for-6m-refit-91466-28165119/

The MAD Exhibition
So the exhibition is titled Inherited Dysfunction, focusing on the faults with society, things like, for example how we don’t question things that are probably quite morally wrong simply because we were brought up to accept it, kind of like a collective mental illness. However interpret it as you wish. The exhibition is going to hopefully contain a whole spectrum of different creative medium, possibly including a few live acts at different times throughout the event (musicians, poets etc.). It will be hosted at Tapestri Bar in Swansea from 10th March for a month and there will also be a private view on the opening night from 19:00 until 21:00.

We've got it going!
So it's the first week after the shop reopening and we're glad to see so many keen faces popping in to say hello and to have a look around. We're also still making progress with the film studio set up and are glad to see people wanting to get involved with our various projects such as our exhibition and our save the CD campaign.
Things are currently all going swimmingly.
