Studio refurb

We are refurbishing the studio to make it an even better place to be inspired in!

The green screen will be repainted, and a new improved lighting system will be fitted.

The acoustics in the large recording room will be improved with bass traps and curtains to deaden the echoes and external noise – making the noise you make sound even better.

There will be a chill-out area painted purple, orange and black ,with space hoppers to complete the kitsch retro feel, featuring free tea and coffee and a fridge stacked with goodies to keep you going through rehearsals and recordings.

Although the refurb is on-going, the rooms are available for booking

Rates for band rehearsals in the Viper Room are:

£15 for 2 hours

£20 for 3 hours

£25 for 4 hours

£30 for 5 hours

It’s a massive 30′ x 15′ room with PA and drum kit included, generally available between 11am and 11 pm

To book, call 07947593646, email info [at] madinswansea [dot] org [dot] uk or book online www.madinswansea.org.uk

The refurb will be finished by the end of November, when we’ll be using it to launch our GwirVol project, ‘Tawe and Country’

‘Tawe and Country’

Had enough of young people being blamed for everything, or being bad-mouthed and put down? Want to show all the positive things that you and others are doing?

You can use ‘Tawe and Country’ (Tawe for the river Tawe which runs through Swansea) to plan, write and produce short films about the work young people are doing, in the area and around the world.

The three main themes are:

Community – for example, the lives of young carers or the work done by young volunteers

Environment – concerns and activism locally, nationally and worldwide. What are your concerns for the future of the world? What different things are you or others doing to turn the tide towards a healthier, more sustainable planet?

Inspiration – music, art, dance and sport – or anything else which inspires you, or where you have a talent. What are the challenges and issues you have to deal with to be the best you can be – and what are your greatest successes?

The project starts mid-November, and is aimed at 16 to 25 year olds, although not all members of a group have to be in that age range. It lasts for up to 6 months, and you’ll be involved for up to 4 hours a week – times and commitments are flexible, and we can travel to you with our fantastic mobile equipment.

We can also pay travelling and food expenses if needed, and there is free tea, coffee and soft drinks at MAD central on High Street.

There are limited places, but we want to involve as many people as possible, so please get in touch with us if you’re interested. Everyone who participates can learn film making skills including operating cameras and sound recording, interviewing and being interviewed, as well as getting the opportunity to put forward your own ideas.

The project will be launched at the end of November in the refurbished studio, but work on ideas starts mid-November, so email us soon info [at] madinswansea [dot] org [dot] uk

More new musicians working with MAD.

We’ve been working with two emerging young Black artists, Louisa and Young Juppie, both originally from Ghana and now living in Swansea.

Louisa is a dancehall singer who used MAD to help her create the video for her latest track, Fever. Click here to check it out.

Young Juppie is a rapper – he’s written a rap about Swansea, City by the Sea, with help from MAD.

Both really talented, we’ve loved working with them and hope they’ve benefited from our facilities. Please get in touch if you want to record a track or create a video.
